The fun part is seeing how weather changes with altitude, proximity to sunrise and sunset events, how far East or West, and what side of a mountain range. Cafe Cinema Event Fri Feb. 10 @ 7:30 PM Feature: WAY DOWN EAST 1920 (107 Min) Silent, Drama USA 
On Friday, Feb 10, Cafe Cinema will show a silent era film by D.W. Griffith, WAY DOWN EAST, starring the one and only Lillian Gish. This extremely engaging film concerns a naive country girl, played by Lillian Gish, who is deluded by a womanizer, played by Lowell Sherman, into thinking she's married him, and has a child out of wedlock. The baby dies and Sherman splits. She starts her life over by working as a maid for a squire (Burr McIntosh), whose son (Richard Barthelmess) falls in love with her. 
If you are not familiar with the work of either Lillian Gish or Richard Barthelmess, you will be no doubt be overwhelmed by their performances. The story is all about love, betrayal, tolerance, and redemption. The finale stunned 1920 audiences and is now considered one of the most famous in silent film history.

Issue: Lost Cat Cat Name: Peanut 1st Reported: Thankgiving 2011 Where: Marion View Dr./Mc Mahon Rd MAP Peanut, a 8-year-old cat, has been missing since Thanksgiving Day. She was last seen near Marion View Drive and Mc Mahon Rd. in Idyllwild. She is all black with yellow eyes and weighs about 10 pounds. She has tiny paws. There was no collar or ID tags. Event: Sustain Idyllwild Date: Sat, Feb 4, 3-5 pm Where: Quiet Creek Inn Gallery Fee: Free MAP There is a benefit for the Sustainability program at Idyllwild Arts. Its sponsored by the Earth Witness organization, which provides both onsite and outreach education programs on sustainable ecology and Native American culture to Grades K-12 in Riverside County schools. The program teaches students about alternative resourcing for the future and about the rich culture and heritage of the indigenous peoples of the region. There will be performances by various local musicians, including one of our faves, Roger Dutton.

Event: Occupy Idyllwild for Peace, Justice and Non-Violence Date: Saturdays at Noon Where: Tree Monument MAP Per Wikipedia, Peace describes a society or a relationship that is operating harmoniously and without violent conflict. Peace is commonly understood as the absence of hostility, or the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, safety in matters of social or economic welfare, the acknowledgment of equality, and fairness in political relationships. In international relations, peacetime is the absence of any war or conflict. Every Saturday at noon in town center, there is a Occupy Idyllwild for Peace, Justice and Non-Violence gathering. The coexistence with a very artistic base community helps define our little town as regional creative hub. Parents from every corner of the world send their children to Idyllwild Arts. Some of the greatest children's books are covered including James and the Giant Peach, Charlotte's Web, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Harriet the Spy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. 
Local painter, Matthew Wettlaufer, has returned to his hometown of Idyllwild to focus on his passion, abstract painting. Diane A. Rhodes, columnist for the Press Enterprise newspaper, has written a wonderful article on Matthew's biographical details and what he has been up to since moving back to Idyllwild. MAP Idyllwild's 'coolest' health food establishment is serving the 'hottest' soups for the winter. Chef Cathy Brown, has the natural knack when it comes to making something scrumptious out of purely healthy ingredients. Idyllwild has a new bike shop. The Hub Cyclery can handle all bicycle repairs, old and new. They are open for business now, mostly on the weekends, and they are located about a block up from town center at 54425 North Circle Drive. They have morning group rides leaving from The Hub Cyclery. Event: Farmers Market Date: Saturdays at Noon Where: Mtn. Harvest Market Every Saturday, from 10 AM to 3 PM, there is a food bazaar set up in front of Mountain Harvest Market. Organic and fresh produce, at discount prices, attracts many to this weekly festive open air event. Mountain Harvest Market is a Idyllwild based, independently owned and operated, healthy foods store. They are staffed, supported and sustained by our local mountain community. Note: If the weather is inclement, the market moves indoors.
