Webcam imagery help mountain drivers quickly judge the weather and driving conditions on their scenic visit to Idyllwild. With this spirit, we are providing a "bird's eyes" view of Idyllwild from three webcams. The first is located near the town center of Idyllwild. The second cam location is in our nearest town, in terms of driving distance, Hemet. The third locale is 180 degrees in the opposite direction, sunny Palm Springs. The live webcam images below are from Georgias, the Green Cafe, Palm Springs and Hemet. Georgia's webcam is facing south and the street you see is North Circle Drive, the main drag of Idyllwild. AROUND TOWN
We have an event planned for Friday, June 19 at the Cafe Cinema. The film is the MGM 1925 silent classic, THE BIG PARADE. 
Director King Vidor was nominated for five Academy Award nominations during his 30 year film career. He was the recipient of an Honorary Award in 1978 for "his incomparable achievements as a cinematic creator and innovator." This Friday night, we will definitely show his most imcomparable work, the legengary THE BIG PARADE. When it was released in 1925, it was so popular that it easily became the highest grossing silent film of all time, making $22 million. A great irony of the films preservation is that it was considered lost for many years, due to A fire at the MGM studios. It was due to a clerical error that the film got displaced from where the fire occured and was thus saved. The Palm Springs Film Noir Festival is now over. Alot of Cafe Cinema regulars attended this year's event and it seemed like all had a great time. Thanks to Barbara Lyons for the great show! Low key lighting, night for night shooting, and urban settings such as boxing rings, back alleys, cheap hotel rooms, waterfronts, nightclubs/cantinas are just a few clues that you are watching a film noir film. Cafe Cinema shows quite a few of them every year. You will have to wait till next May for Barbara Lyons to put on the 9th FESTIVAL. Four Film Noir classics a day are shown on the BIG screen at the ultra modern Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs. Some of the films haven't been seen anywhere since their original release over 60 years ago. The celestial bodies are arranged in chronological rise time order and can be experienced in the Idyllwild area by looking in the lower southeast sky (towards Garner Valley). If the name of the planet is in purple, then it is currently visible under suitable conditions. To view the setting planet, look in the lower southwest sky, towards Hemet.
